Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
CBT is an evidenced-based modality used to treat a variety of mental health conditions. The premise behind this approach is that the cognitions individuals hold, shape how they think, feel, and behave. Some thinking promotes growth and others lead to distress and conflict. My role as therapist is to help clients identify dysfunctional thinking and behavior that may be impeding growth and find ways to bring about positive change through more productive and healthy thinking patterns and behavioral modifications. The goal of CBT is to provide skills that clients can used in a variety of situations, empowering them to have agency over their lives.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
SFBT is an evidenced based, short-term, goal directed approach that elicits changes in clients by focusing on solutions to problems rather than on the problems themselves. It is a framework that is based on co-construction between therapist and client in establishing a desired outcome; a description of the history of the outcome (when the outcome was present in the past); a description of the future of the outcome; and resource talk. This treatment modality assumes a stance of belief and competence in the client even in the face of significant challenges.
